Organic wine

Organic farming is increasingly becoming a matter of course for many European vineyards. Sustainability and regionality are values that have become more important to wine connoisseurs around the world. This change is evident both in Switzerland and especially in the south of France at Languedoc-Roussillon. Organic wine  - whispered about behind closed doors just a few years ago - is now in vogue with consumers.
Château Laquirou cultivates its 40 hectares in a controlled, organic way. Careful management of our environment is crucial for wine quality. With 3000 hours of sunshine per year and little precipitation, it is vital for our vines to root in a healthy and balanced groundwater reserve. We want to use resources as sparingly as possible.
We are proud to carry the logo of the French inspection body «AB» (Agriculture Biologique) and the EU organic label on our bottles.

The best expression of the terroir

The range of Château Laquirou wines is comprehensive and at the same time typical of the region. From the very beginning, we have been committed to the recall value of our wines, which are intended to reflect the predominant terroir - our particular location by the Mediterranean on an «island» of biodiversity with climatic conditions ranging from biting winter winds to dry, hot summer months. The results are mature wines made with our best grapes harvested from healthy vines. The natural surroundings can be found in our wines too in the typical herbal scent of the south of France - the «garrigue».

Our white wine from local grape varieties Bourboulenc  and Grenache Blanc. Notes of citrus fruits, white flowers and a garrigue of aromatic herbs. Balanced on the palate, straightforward and fresh. «Albus» comes from the Latin word for «white».

Our top white wine was named after the 1978 song by British band «The Police», and it's a blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. Underlying woody aromas and a long finish.

Average age of the vines: 30 years

A classic rosé, pressed using a short maceration period from the traditional «La Clape» varieties such as Syrah and Grenache. Aromas of red berries, with notes of almonds, bread biscuits and herbs. On the palate, it is structured and robust. It is a dry but very well-balanced wine which is extremely refreshing, lively and digestible. «Sarriette» is the French word for savory (an aromatic mint), which forms part of the garrigue at Laquirou.

Aromas of red berries and garrigue herbs plus a hint of leather, liquorice and brushwood as well as mineral notes. On the palate, it is light and lively with present tannins and refreshing, well-integrated acidity. A truly flatterering wine.

An excellent cuvée of Syrah, Carignan and Grenache from selected plots with old vines. Aromas of dark forest berries and cherries with some liquorice, pepper, tobacco and forest soil.  Also distinct mineral notes such as graphite. Powerful, spicy, fruity and multi-layered on the palate. The premium wine of the estate
Aureus Prestige

For our flagship wine, «Aureus Prestige», only the best is good enough. This means we carry out two selection processes. Firstly, only grapes from mature vines are used, which are rooted in the best sites, the so-called «Coteaux». Secondly, for this blend of Syrah (80%), Grenache and Carignan, we only use those three or four oak casks whose wines have matured best. Aromas of red and dark berries, underpinned by precious spice and herbal notes. Concentrated on the palate, with plenty of fruit, fine-grained tannin and ripe acidity. Enduring.

Average age of the vines: 50 years

Maturation: 12 - 18 months in new French oak casks

Perfect with: Spicy Sisteron lamb, chateaubriand, saddle of hare, mushroom ragout, mature raw milk cheese

Optimal drinking: Within eight years of the vintage
